SHIM e-Learning History and Background
The SHIM e-Learning Management System officially began on March 7, 2025, with a clear goal: to provide accessible, flexible, and meaningful education using a blended learning approach. SHIM was created to support students, teachers, and lifelong learners by offering a simple and user-friendly online learning platform.
The idea started when the Blended Learning Professors introduced the concept of an e-Learning system to the class. He asked the students to form a group and complete various components as part of a major project to build a Learning Management System (LMS). The class was also guided to explore different blended learning models that support the system.
A group of four students was formed: Ms. Suci, Mr. Hendra, Mr. Indra, and Mr. Mic. The name SHIM comes from the first letters of their names. To begin collaboration, Mr. Hendra created a WhatsApp group for easy communication.
After discussing ideas, the team agreed to purchase a domain name and web hosting, which was the first real step in building the SHIM platform. To gain more knowledge, Mr. Mic enrolled in a course on Udemy titled “How to Create a Learning Management System with WordPress.”
The group shared ideas, assigned tasks, and tracked progress using a Google Sheet checklist. Tasks were updated regularly, and members marked them as done using checkboxes in the shared sheet.
To design the platform, the team used WordPress and plugin tools, focusing on a clean and functional design. They tested the system to make sure it worked well on different devices and supported various learning content—like text, images, videos, and quizzes.
Throughout the process, the SHIM team stayed committed to using technology in a meaningful and practical way. Thanks to the guidance of their professors, encouragement from classmates, and teamwork, SHIM was carefully developed and refined.
Today, SHIM proudly goes live, ready to welcome digital learners with its guiding philosophy: “Learn It. Live It. Blend It.”
